ESTELLENCS

The road along the coast north and south west of Estellencs is impressive, being built for most of its route on a ledge overhanging the sea. The coast is rocky and wild, and inland the mountains rise to 1,000 metres.

There are several miradores or viewpoints where one may view the rugged coast, notably those of Ses Ortigues, Ricardo Roca and Torre de Ses Animes. Estellencs is a small attractive village, with a track down to the coast.

FORMENTOR

Formentor is narrow peninsula at the northernmost point of the island, with impressive mountain scenery. A good road snakes all the way to Cape Formentor with its lighthouse, from which, on a clear day, one can see Menorca. A mirador at Mal Pas gives spectacular coastal views; as shown in the picture of Cape Formentor on the right.

On the southern shore lies the Formentor Hotel, the oldest and best known of Mallorca's luxury hotels. A dense forest of Pine trees that come almost to the water’s edge backs the beach of fine white sand. The bay is usually peppered with private yachts at anchor.

Given the area’s very upmarket appeal, it comes as a surprise to find that the beach cafes specialise in dishes such as egg’n’chips, hot dogs and burgers etc, complete with plastic knives and forks!
